Here is a random sampling of photos from the trip Cathy and I took to Italy the first two weeks of May.  Several of you have asked when they were coming so here they are!  Although there are many more, I hope these will be fun for you to see.

Michelangelo Favorites…Pieta and Moses

Cathy and I returned late Friday night from our trip from Italy with lots of great memories and hundreds of photos!  Let the viewer beware of many uploads to come.

Just to get us started, here are two memorable photos of my favorite pieces by Michelangelo.  Absolutely amazing works!

Nurturing and mentoring…

Posted on

Went to church this morning in Rome.  Beautiful day in the ancient city and warm, inviting time of worship at Rome Baptist Church.  Pastor Dave Hodgson explained the need all of us have to be nurtured for now, mentored for the long-haul.  Without nurture now, our immediate needs and concerns may overwhelm us and shut down our growth.  Without mentoring for the future, we can get stuck and not move forward toward maturity.

The Bible is filled with examples of both.  Thinking back in my own life, I have been blessed to have both nurturers and mentors to help me grow up in Christ.  Giving back is my responsibility and privilege.  All of us are called to have both and be both!  From one generation to the next, we need to embrace this part of our identity as members of His body!

Note:  We will complete the first installment of our sabbatical this week and be back in Raleigh late Friday night.  Thanks to all of you who have made this trip possible and to those of you who continue to pray for us!

Happy Mothers Day from Italy!

Hard to believe but 2013 is here and I will be spending some time away on sabbatical this year.  Rather than the typical block of time off for the summer as in past sabbaticals, I will be away for three weeks in the spring and six weeks in the summer.  Part of that will be mission trip, part vacation and part sabbatical.

During the spring, Cathy and I will spend a part of our time in Rome, a first for us.  Hope you enjoy the first of what should be many photos of Italy we hope to post here.  This one was taken by my son Jon a couple of years ago and then I reworked it recently with an oil painting look.
